The 20-year-old Benzema is currently rated as one of the best up-and-coming talents in European football next to Alexandre Pato, and his style of play is not too dissimilar to that of a young Ronaldo.
Benzema has admitted that he idolised Ronaldo as he was growing up and he has dozens of DVD’s of him at home that he regularly watches.
“He would have deserved another end to his career,” said the French international regarding the talk in the media that we have probably witnessed Ronaldo play for the last time.
“To me he is the best player ever.”
“Even if he stops playing football I’ll keep watching the DVDs. Having a career like his is my dream.”
Ronaldo ruptured the tendon in his knee against Livorno on Wednesday night, a career-threatening injury which will keep him out of the game for at least nine-to-12 months.
With this in mind it seems highly probable that Ronaldo will eventually retire from the game without playing another top-class match.

Perhaps the best player ever. Certainly the best player in my time of watching football. Like Maradona he could almost single-handedly turn matches and even tournaments. However, unlike Maradona, Ronaldo was two-footed. The only thing I have to say is I can’t remember when I last saw him score a header! That hatrick against United in Champo League 2003 4trs was out of this world
Yes, I completely agree with Benzema who is a top class striker himself. He obviously knows what he is saying. Ronaldo is indeed the best goal scorer the world has ever seen,he was even better than Van Basten,Romario,Pele and Gerd Muller. He scored a fantastic hat trick against a very strong Manchester United team at Old Trafford and the home fans gave him a standing ovation when he came off ! Surely, they had never seen such a wonderful goal scorer before,and they already had a world class striker like Van Nistelroy in their own team who also scored on that night …..
