Corinthians coach compares Ronaldo with Michael Jordan

Ronaldo returned to training with his new club yesterday and his coach Mano Menezes has compared Ronaldo to Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan achieved nearly every award and title during his time as an NBA player and Ronaldo has done pretty much the same.

During his second training day with the Corinthians, Ronaldo’s teammates looked at Ronaldo as more of an idol rather than a teammate.  This was noted by Mano Menezes has he was quoted saying

“In his book entitled Sacred Hoops, Phil Jackson told how some players of the Bulls team simply stood by and watched in awe rather than actually playing. With Ronaldo, I hope that things will become normalized sooner than later. Once everyone plays together, then we will achieve the results we are after,”

Menezes also stated that everyone needs to be patient with Ronaldo and should not expect too much too soon as Ronaldo has just returned after a year recovering from a knee injury.

“We need some good old sacrifice, lots of hard work and dedication from Ronaldo as well as the rest of the team and coaching staff,” he said. “Everyone needs to be patient, especially Ronaldo, who is returning to the sport after nearly one year. I know he is anxious to return as soon as possible, but we will have to control his anxiety in order to avoid any further injuries,” said Menezes.

During the training session Ronaldo did not participate in the field activities.  He spent most of his time working out and continuing with his physical therapy. He is now in his final stages of recuperation and has admitted that he is about four or five kilos over weight.

Ronaldo and Bea have a baby girl

Ronaldo’s fiancee, Maria Beatriz Antony, on Wednesday gave birth to the striker’s second child, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Antony gave birth to Maria Sofia in Rio de Janeiro’s Clinica Perinatal, hospital spokeswoman Ana Maria Funky said by telephone, adding the baby was born weighing 2.98 kilograms (6.57 pounds).

She said Ronaldo was present when his daughter was born and cut the umbilical cord.

Funky said both mother and daughter were in perfect health and should leave the hospital no later than Friday.

Ronaldo to wear number 99 jersey

Ronaldo will start the season wearing his favourite number 9 but in September to mark the 99th anniversary of the Corinthians, he will wear the number 99 jersey.

Luis Paulo Rosenberg also confirmed that if Ronaldo extends his contract then he will wear the numnber 100 to mark 100 years of Corinthians Football Club.

Ronaldo will debut on the 17th of January against a top European Club.  Rumours are that the top club will be Real Madrid but I’m hoping it will be against Milan, especially with all the Brazilian players on the team plus the addition of Beckham will allow Ronaldo to play against his former team mates.
