Corinthians coach compares Ronaldo with Michael Jordan

Posted December 29, 2008

Ronaldo returned to training with his new club yesterday and his coach Mano Menezes has compared Ronaldo to Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan achieved nearly every award and title during his time as an NBA player and Ronaldo has done pretty much the same.

During his second training day with the Corinthians, Ronaldo’s teammates looked at Ronaldo as more of an idol rather than a teammate.  This was noted by Mano Menezes has he was quoted saying

“In his book entitled Sacred Hoops, Phil Jackson told how some players of the Bulls team simply stood by and watched in awe rather than actually playing. With Ronaldo, I hope that things will become normalized sooner than later. Once everyone plays together, then we will achieve the results we are after,”

Menezes also stated that everyone needs to be patient with Ronaldo and should not expect too much too soon as Ronaldo has just returned after a year recovering from a knee injury.

“We need some good old sacrifice, lots of hard work and dedication from Ronaldo as well as the rest of the team and coaching staff,” he said. “Everyone needs to be patient, especially Ronaldo, who is returning to the sport after nearly one year. I know he is anxious to return as soon as possible, but we will have to control his anxiety in order to avoid any further injuries,” said Menezes.

During the training session Ronaldo did not participate in the field activities.  He spent most of his time working out and continuing with his physical therapy. He is now in his final stages of recuperation and has admitted that he is about four or five kilos over weight.
