Ronaldo picks up calf injury

Ronaldo against Fluminense 20th May 2009

Ronaldo’s poor performance over the last three games is due to a calf injury that he picked up last week before the game against Fluminense at Pacaembu.

Ronaldo will now miss the next league game against Barueri on Saturday but will return to face Vasco next Wednesday in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil.

“The ideal is playing once a week. Now, I will take time. Unfortunately I will not be in the match against Barueri and we will continue focusing our main objective, which is the Copa do Brasil,” said Ronaldo.

“It all started when I got the flu. I was very weak and I have to take huge amounts of drugs to try to get better as soon as possible. On the eve of the game (Fluminese last week), I did some training for speed and felt a small pain. Since then the pain has not disappeared,” added Ronaldo.

This is a major blow for Ronaldo after such a comfortable return. Plus this will make the decision for Dunga not to include Ronaldo in the Brazilian Team due to his risk of injuries.
