Ronaldo complains about extended time at training camps

Posted June 29, 2009

Ronaldo Press Conference

Ronaldo has complained about the Corinthians decision to hold long training camps before big matches. He believes that they should adopt the European model where players are not kept away from home for long periods of time.

‘The concentration is an exaggerated time. I fully understand the importance of the moment we live but in the six months we are concentrated for three. It is time locked in a hotel in Itu and the travelling, often two days before the game. Particularly, it is psychologically stressful and the physical results are not guaranteed,’ said Ronaldo.

‘Barcelona only focused one day before the Champions League Final. In addition, they were at lunch at 11am and played at 20h or 21h and won it all,’ added Ronaldo.

Ronaldo also wanted to assure that his thoughts were just his opinion and not a demand.

‘I gave my opinion. I am not suggesting anything to the boss. This is a personal opinion but also reflects the whole group. However, I’m not asking for any privileges or advantages,’ concluded Ronaldo.

Man he is Fat, he has cheeks double size than he had in 2006 or 2007. PERIOD.

  2. nameless on June 29th, 2009 5:51 pm

Thank God he is a football player and not a model, otherwise he would have a problem now, right LOL?:)

  3. thecoalition on June 29th, 2009 5:52 pm

yup, he let himself go whilst injured, SEVERELY, people questioned his fitness at the world cup but now people know he is not in good shape for a footballer, but he has worked hard, look back when he joined in december, he HUGE as a person let alone a professional footballer. ON TOPIC, if douglas came out and said this he would be criticised by everyone on this site, personally, ronaldo knew that brazilian football was different to european and he chose brazilian football over european, he must live with his decision, he didn’t want the hard work of european football in the hardest levels, you can complain roni, but you won’t get much sympathy. you chose brazil.

  4. thecoalition on June 29th, 2009 5:55 pm

he has lost weight since december but he still has chubby face, comapared to 2006 it looks funny, each time i see him playing from wc 2006 matches i think how slim he looks LOL, not good. But i will be patient and see what he does with his career from now. he can’t aim to be fit by summer 2010, he needs to get fit as soon as possible so he can play whilst being ultra fit, because to me, he will have have been in great shape a fair period of time before the world cup to be considered for selection.

  5. zox on June 29th, 2009 6:04 pm

I remember a time around 2004/05 for madrid when he appeared the thinest since wc 2002 and that time his strike rate was terrible. even the maximum weight loss he can achieve wont improve his performance significantly. and sayign he’s fat by looking at his face is the stupidest thing ever.

  6. nameless on June 29th, 2009 6:22 pm

thecolaition, which great european club wanted him?Ronaldo said in an interview that he got no serious offers from Europe, therefore he has chossen Brazil, because he wanted to play in a big club. That shows that he is very motivated, otherwise he would have gone to Paris St.Germain or Tottenham Hotspur or another average club.

  7. uniqt on June 30th, 2009 2:23 am

he chose brazil over europe, the fact he got no offers from clubs he liked is what happens when players put on significant amounts of weight. Although it was very sad and unlucky when he got injured, he shouldn’t have put all of that weight on. That could handicap his wc 2010 chances seeing as he is finding it touch to lose the weight.

  8. Lawrence Fonjungo from Cameroon on June 30th, 2009 10:05 am

All of you are just Lealous of Ronaldo.Jealousy is a very bad thing.Instead for you guys to appreciat Ronaldo for a successfull football carreer you are there talking foolish talk about his size, weight or whar ever.Is there any player who has the kind of acheivement Ronaldo has?You should be encouraging him rather than talking about things that has no use.The achievements Ronaldo has,not even the great Maradona can compare. He is the only player in this planet earth who has won all the trophies when it comes to club level except Champins league and he is still playing foot ball and would still win more trophies both personal and for club level. If you guys care go and cancell his 15 goals record as the all time highest scorer in the world cup.And I bet you he his going to win the Bresilian cup with Corinthians, win the world cup, increase his goal at the world cup,be the world best player again and win many more tittles and trophies and you all will be ashame.IF you are those eveil spirits trying to disturb Ronaldo’s success I bind you all in the name of JESUS CHRIST.R9 best striker for live.

  9. p2p on June 30th, 2009 10:53 am

how are they jealous? they are ronaldo fans, can’t you understand that? It is just that sometimes it is more interesting to discuss things rather than just say “go ronaldo” or other pointless things that no one is interested in reading. No one is abusing him, you should read the comments again before you get on your high horse. you call us “EVIL SPIRITS” even though we are ronaldo fans and are the people who defend ronaldo and sometimes have been on trips out of the country just to watch one man? WE ARE HIS FANS, MORON.

  10. GET REAL on June 30th, 2009 12:11 pm

Lawrence from Cameroon, ****OFF and GET REAL, evil spirits???? we are his fanbase. TIT
I didn’t realise the kind of idiots that also support ronaldo. damn.

  11. GET REAL on June 30th, 2009 12:23 pm

sorry for my language, but you sit there and call ronaldo fans evil spirits. Where did that ever make sense to you?

  12. FJD on June 30th, 2009 12:23 pm

Ronaldo is fat, he should train 24 hours a day and not complain.

I feel sorry for him because of his injurys, but you dont become fat by eating healthy.

  13. nameless on June 30th, 2009 2:43 pm

Oh, come on!Do you really think Ronaldo went through the hard recovery time, trained hard, only to sit around and eat all the time?He could have said:Ok, that’s it.I have achieved everything I could and now, I just want to relax (and eat without being critisiced). But he bounced back to play again, to achieve much more.He isn’t thin, because he is very muscled. If you mean he should loose some muscle, I don’t know if he really should.I think the muscles defend him of more injuries, that’s what a doctor said after his first injury at Inter. He said to him he should have more muscle to not get injured so easily.Anyway,I’m with Lawrence Fonjungo. It’s enough criticism, for God’s sake, let the man be.Don’t try to put him under pressure like ingrate persons do for some years. It’s so sad.

  14. Lawrance of Arabia on June 30th, 2009 3:05 pm

he isn’t as muscly as anelka or ballack or kenwyne jones, whilst he doesn’t have 6 pack their is weight to be lost. Ronaldo himself said that he must lose weight, maybe you know better than ronaldo. He is not as strong as many players but is a lot bigger, what’s more those guys i mentioned are, as are a lot of pro footballers ripped, with 6 packs packs as well as muscular bodies, last time i checked he wasn’t like that. ronaldo doesn’t have to worry about losing muscle mass, losing the fat will be plenty enough. If he stays in the shape he is now he will not be going to the world cup, you will see. what’s more, the players i mentioned are all as tall or taller than ronaldo and weigh less, oh yeah, and they are stronger. Deal with the facts.

  15. nameless on June 30th, 2009 3:20 pm

Why are you always talking about a 6pack?I don’t think that he has to have a 6pack to go to the WC.Had Zidane a 6pack?Had Maradonna a 6pack?Had even Pele a 6pack?I know that Ronaldo said himself that he should loose weight, but he and his physio also said his bodyfat is well, that means he has to lose muscles. So, you are right, naturally I don’t know it better than him, my only point always was (and it could be that I was misunderstood or couldn’t make it clear) that it doesn’t matter for me if he loses weight or not, because I don’t think that he will be faster if he loses a few kilos, because of his bad knees and his reams of muscle injuries and the fact the he is almost 33 years old.I can understand his situation and the only thing I expect from him is to score, what he does. So, sometimes I can’t stand all this FAT-talk and all the criticism because it looks like that some people want the Ronaldo from the 90s back, at any cost, which is impossible.Unlike some other fans, I’m relaxed concerning Ronaldo and WC2010.

  16. chico on June 30th, 2009 3:32 pm

yeah, I truly think you is muscled,it don’t like he is fat, people are exaggerating so much

  17. chico on June 30th, 2009 3:32 pm

i mean I don’t think he is fat

  18. Lawrance of Arabia on June 30th, 2009 3:44 pm

I want him to lose weight because dunga said he will not recall him unless he is in the shape of 2002, that is a lot to ask, which is why i don’t think he will be at the world cup.

  19. Kiki on June 30th, 2009 4:27 pm

Lets face it. Ronaldo is in the twilight of an amazing career. Only a few players manage to play at a very high level during this period. Let leave him to enjoy each game as it comes; the man doesn’t need to prove himself to anyone. He is a living legend!!!

  20. UT900 on June 30th, 2009 4:44 pm

“only a few players manage to play at a very high level during this period”. You are wrong, players don’t retire that early. what are you talking about?

  21. Lawrence Fonjungo from Cameroon on June 30th, 2009 4:47 pm

p2p if I did call you evil spirits not knowing you are Ronaldo’s fan, then I am very sorry.I love Ronaldo in such a way that I do not like to listen to any statement that wil make feel as if he is been insulted. If we the fans of Ronaldo want to say anything that is not going well with Ronaldo either it is his fault or some one eles’s we should do it politely. When you speak gently and soft to some body when you are correcting him,he will feel encourage.Once again I am so sorry I called you evil spirit we are all Ronaldo’s fan and want the best for him.

  22. nameless on June 30th, 2009 4:48 pm

Lawrence, I read that Dunga said Ronaldo should play and score regularly to be called up,but the president of the Barzilian Football Federation (CBF), Ricardo Teixeira said Ronaldo has to be like in 2002.But it’s n ot his decision, it’s Dunga’s.And even if Dunga said he should be like in 2002,I can’t imagine he will left Ronaldo out if he is palying and scoring regularly.Let’s hope.

  23. Guppy on June 30th, 2009 5:20 pm

glad to hear my fellow country man kenwyne jones bein mentioned on r9′s website :D

  24. aj on June 30th, 2009 5:37 pm

Man, i love Ronaldo to death, but seriously he been back training for six months now, he SHOULD be in shape…he is a professional and getting paid very well…

  25. zox on June 30th, 2009 5:59 pm

He is in shape, proven by the running, movement and tricks in the last games. He can be in better shape, but not as much as people here would like him to – he admits he has a few kilos to lose, about three or so, but people here want him to lose like ten which is impossible. also, he does have a sixpack, watch this:

    http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Esportes/0,,GIM974255-7824-RONALDO+DA+SHOW+EM+TREINO+MARCANDO+TRES+GOLS,00.html

so stop the nonsense about his sixpack. he should run more on the pitch and score more to get in the selecao. otherwise, he’s fine.

  26. p2p on July 1st, 2009 5:11 am

thanks zox, i had been looking for that vid for a while because people sometimes ask what his stomach looks like recently in the chatbox, i wonder if by now he has defined his abdominal muscles and pectoral muscles because there they look very soft, but this was before he started playing so hopefully he looks better than this, and zox, that is not a 6 pack, i don’t want to start an argument but that is not a 6 pack.

  27. p2p on July 1st, 2009 5:13 am

i hope he has one now, it will show that he will have turned the corner, and if he does have 6 pack he is not overweight in the slightest.

  28. osama on July 1st, 2009 7:04 am

wow he has a real slender look to him wen he is wearing the sleevless orange top..i think he looks in awesome shape in tht all though the other images are quite old thts wen he joined the side..all the best to phenomeno on his recovery and hope he scores more goals in todays game..best wishes to the great r9 from pakistan

  29. nameless on July 1st, 2009 7:06 am

I’ve never heard that a football player should have a 6pack to play great and score goals.Imagine how Zidane and Maradonna would have played if they had a 6pack!:)

our people are waiting for him
i wish he makes his last Glory ….

  32. p2p on July 1st, 2009 2:46 pm

whenever you see a footballer celebrate a goal and remove their shirt they have six pack, maradona and zidane would have had 6 packs, EVEN DAVID GINOLA HAD A 6 PACK, IT IS HARD TO THINK OF A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER THAT DOESN’T.
