Scolari says World Cup still in reach for Ronaldo

Ronaldo with Scolari in 2002

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who was the coach of the winning team in 2002 World Cup believes that Ronaldo still has a chance to make it to the World Cup. All he needs to do is lose a few pounds.

“If Ronaldo wants to, then he can. He just needs to lose some of the weight and return to a better fitness and he will be a headache to anyone (in defense),” said Scolari.

Although Scolari does not approve of Ronaldo’s current form. The former Brazil coach praised the Phenomenon for going through all the difficulties in his career. In 2002, Scolari chose Ronaldo over Romario at the time. That was a major call but it worked in Scolari’s favor. Hoepfully, Dunga is not thinking the same and replacing Ronaldo with Fabiano.

“Ronaldo is a player who excels. Many people imagine that he is finished but he has the power to overcome that, much more than other athletes,” added Scolari.

You can compare Romario and R9, but you cannot compare Fabino and R9

  4. Firasko78 on December 15th, 2009 1:18 pm

yes u r right Fenton, absolutly u can’t do comparing Ronaldo with Fabiano.
Romario was very great plyer too,he has a fantastic skils ,he was fast drible.
    but Ronaldo much more breliant.

I would take Ronaldo and Fabiano up front…

Dunga maybe played to long in Germany, so he wants the Brazilian-Team play like an European-Team… and this is the reason why he loves Fabiano: because he is not a typical brazilian-style striker… more like an europeon-striker…

You’re right Caca. But there he’ll score 6 g’s in 7 games and nobody will give a f*ck about his belly and the world shall fall to Ronaldo’s knees again. MUhahahah! ONE LOVE !

  10. R9R9 on December 15th, 2009 4:59 pm

He said : “headache to Dunga ” not defense but Dunga !

And this is no news becuase whole world knows that but some here think he is not fat .

He needs to loose atleast 6-8 kilos in two months if he wants to be considerd but its all in his power if he wants it.

Please dont give me that crap with ilness , if he wants he will loose weight.

R9R9, he can’t lose weight like other players because his body suffered more than the body of other players. It’s normal that someone’s body which had a lot of operations and especially many rehabs, and especially long rehabs,is not able to work like it did before. And if it’s the body of an athlete which is trained hard since he is 15,16 and plays 15,16 years on a very high level (and football is really a very tough game for the body) then this body is tired finally compared to the body of other footballers who didn’t have so many setbacks and especially hard rehabs for a long time! That’s not an excuse, that’s a medical fact. You can ask a doctor he will tell you a body like Ronaldo’s is tired after everything it suffered and therefore it’s very difficult for him to lose weight to be 100% fit. He has enough time to lose some weight (I don’t think it’s 6-8kg).His doctors say 90kg is his ideal weight, more is not possible, and he has 5 months, until the end of the Copa Libertadores to be fit enough for the WC2010 (I’m convinced he will be fit enough before because of the Copa Libertadores). It’s not like Ronaldo is just lazy to lose weight but expects to be called up for the WC2010. He is not that stupid!!!

  16. zox on December 16th, 2009 8:15 pm

yeah at milan when he had optimal weight he was like 89-90 kg. so he doesnt need to lose THAT much. only a couple of kilos

  17. Josh on December 20th, 2009 3:53 pm

Scolari is right. He is the best player ever played in modern football.

  18. Llewellyn on December 29th, 2009 2:19 am

i definately agrre with scolari and i know that ronaldo will be at the wc because if he isn’t it will be a travesty really anyway the choice is still dunga’s i’m sure that if he is fit enough he’ll be in the brazilian squad without a doubt.
