Ronaldo injured his thigh during the game against Mirassol. The player will undergo treatment for at least a week, which means he will miss out on the classic against Palmeiras.

Coach Mano Menezes said that it isn’t a big problem and Ronaldo will be back in a week.

“We do without Ronaldo for a week. Soon he will be back. But lets wait as its the classic and everyone know that I like that,” said Menezes

Dunga won’t call Ronaldo if he gets injured each time he plays…

i was gutted when i saw him getting injured. how many blows does this man have to take? and i really thought it was serious because he was lying on the ground in pain. i pray that it is really only a week and not more because ronaldo was evidently making excellent progress. he looked EVIDENTLY leaner than the last game. in my opinion, he lost around 2-3 kilos since then and all he needs to do is lose around 2-3 more to be in the shape he was at Milan. there was no belly last night, he was in better form than last season.

dunga and his staff say ronaldo needs to be in WC2002 shape to get called up. the interesting thing is they dont say he needs to be performing like he did in 2002, just his weight needs to be in order. to be honest, i dont think ronaldo can be as fast or energetic as he was in 2002 even if he has less weight than he did then. his body is too battered for him to have that physical ability. but its much easier to lose weight and simply *look* fit than actually play on that level. right now ronaldo looks almost there. he’s in better shape than last season already and only slightly heavier than at milan. i pray to god that this injury doesnt ruin everything.

and between work rate and speed i consider the first thing to be more important. yes he scored a goal last match, a great one, but his radius of movement is simply pathetic. 99% of the time hes long way from where the action is, he makes no runs and just waits for the ball to come to his feet so he can shoot. that is unacceptable, maybe he will improve in that aspect because its still early season but thats the most important thing. especially with this midfield that is really poor in creativity. this corinthians team is still a long way from the one with cristian and douglas. this tcheco dude is just pathetic for a midfield playmaker. now douglas is at gremio so basically all they did was swap players, guess who got the better deal? not corinthians. i cant believe in december they aimed for riquelme and guti and they settled for tcheco. they are not winning the libertadores with players of that quality.

Some good points zox,but didn’t Ronaldo’s doctors once said he won’t be able to be like in 2002 (physically)? I think therefore they said 90kg is his ideal weight, which is a few kilo more he had at WC2002. And I think the NT doctor Runco knows himself Ronaldo’s weight can’t be like in 2002 anymore, but this doesn’t mean he can’t be fit enough to be called up. I hope Dunga listens to the doctors and don’t except things from Ronaldo which his body can’t do anymore.
And yes, they don’t talk about performances because Dunga already said a few times he knows very well what Ronaldo is capabe of and that he doesn’t have to be tested. And he said last year it’s no surprise for him Ronaldo is able to score, because Ronaldo always scored, doesn’t matter which shape he was.
As for the movement, yes,he doesn’t move often to the ball, but if he does, there are maybe 3,4 defenders who often foul him,so maybe he is just more careful than uninterested in moving. Yesterday,he was fouled how often?6 times? As long as he has the ball, there are some feet tackling him.I think therefore he often gives the ball away.He rarely takes the ball and makes some long runs,he rather gives the ball away, maybe to not be fouled. Don’t know, but I liked his attitude yesterday a lot.It was much better than last game, and it was “just” his second game of the season. Hopefully,he and Roberto Carlos manage to bring a bit of Real Madrid magic back, just a little bit, this would help a lot! :)

I have a feeling in Brazil he is really much more fouled than in Italy when he played for Milan e.g. Isn’t he?

agreed about the weight, i meant into optimal shape without excess weight, not really 2002 weight per se. i think for him it would be a lot easier to get to optimal weight than to play like he did before the injuries at milan. thats an advantage because all he needs to do is lose weight, not play godlike, dunga is only interested about his weight because he doesnt want to get embarassed by taking a fat player to the wc and as you quoted him he knows what ronaldo can do.

as for the movement, he constantly has 3 defenders on his back because he stands near to them at the edge of the box and only moves when the ball gets close to him. he needs to drop deeper and on the wings like he used to. he likes to play a passing game which is amazing to see how he does it but with this team its useless to try that constantly. and the fouls he took last night were too soft for the most part, ronaldo avoids physical football (we saw why last night) but the least he should do is go deeper to retrieve the ball.

because defenders wont be able to follow him that far.

Hopefully he doesn’t put on any weight from now until he comes back, as he was looking in much better shape last night.
